The ideal alignment of the upper and lower jaws constitutes a normal bite. The jaw is properly aligned, with the higher teeth overlapping the lower ones. Incorrect alignment leads to malocclusion, often known as a bad bite.
How Can An Underbite Be Treatment
When a person has an underbite, their lower jaw sticks out more than their upper one. Using a pacifier or sucking one's thumb might lead to an underbite. The majority of underbites are hereditary. Jaw discrepancies are unavoidable and need medical attention. Problems with eating, speaking, and even tooth decay may result from an underbite. Underbites are associated with tooth enamel loss at the points of overlap and frequent jaw discomfort. Each of our patients is important to us, and we go out of our way to give them the beautiful, healthy smile they deserve.
Underbite correction orthodontics are widespread. Examining your jaw, teeth, and facial bones is essential to our comprehensive assessment procedure. The treatment strategy for underbite depends on its severity. Repositioning the lower teeth is often facilitated by orthodontic treatment. Extraction of teeth may also be required. Expanders and similar equipment may also be used to aid in correcting bone growth. Unfortunately, not all underbite patients can be helped by braces and appliances.
An underbite may be fixed by having an oral surgeon reshape and realign the jawbone. Orthognathic surgery is the name for this specialty. Depending on the extent of the problem, this procedure may extend or shorten the lower jaw. It may be necessary to add or remove bone in certain patients. If the bone has to be stabilized following surgery, small plates or screws are employed. Patients in their late teens or adults whose jaw bones have finished developing are the most common candidates for surgical correction of an underbite.
